The History of Our Company

Left to right: Frank Bray, Bob Randolph, Junior Hopkins, &, Dwight Porter

Dwight Porter founded the company in 1965. He originally built poultry houses, but soon found there was a growing market for insulation in the roofs of the poultry houses. So in late 1965, Porter Insulation was founded with the help of lifelong employees Bruce Kinney, Junior Hopkins, and Bob Randolph. In 1975, Dwight's oldest son Keith formed a residential insulation company that is today known as Keith Porter Insulation and Fireplace. In 1976, Dwight's middle son Don Porter became a part owner of the company and remained until 1980 when he formed Porter Truss Company which specializes in poultry house roof trusses. In 1984, Jan Elrod was hired as secretary and bookkeeper for both Porter Insulation and Porter Truss. She remains with both companies to this day. Then in 1986, Dwight decided to bring Frank Bray into the business to run the installing crews. Frank recently retired to spend more time with his family after many years on the road.

In 1990, Dwight brought in his youngest son Brantley Porter to help Frank run the installing crews. In 1993, Brantley decided to start the wholesale division of the business. That same year Mike Thurmond was hired to replace Brantley with the crews and he remains in that position today. In 1995 Willis Armstrong was hired to coordinate outside sales with building contractors. Willis lives in Tennessee and still travels the Southeast. Chuck Herbert was hired in 1997 to oversee customer service and inside sales and remains in that position today.  Tina Corbin came on board in 2005 to assist Chuck with Customer Service.

Through the years, Porter Insulation has seen many changes in the poultry industry. Today, our wholesale distribution division constitutes over 70% of our gross sales. Even with these changes, one constant remains at our company... our commitment to quality products and workmanship at competitive prices. For over 40 years, we have stood behind our name and , God willing, we plan on doing the same for the next 40 years.
